20th August 2008 and my quick thinking lady snapped this shot of Roma Street bound Brisbane Suburban Unit SMU MKII - 229 as it crossed the Campbell Street level crossing just south of Mayne Depot.

Sighted Saturday 7th June, 2008. EL 3503 like all 3500 class locos was specifically designed to work the Central Queensland Coal System. So, it was unusual to see this class loco as far south as Maryborough West. Possibly it was on its way for a rebuild at EDI Maryborough or wheel lathe work at Mayne. Of note is that this particular loco is one of the few named locos in QR. This one, the "Doug Mendoza" (named after the former Railway Commissioner) appears to have been 'relieved' of its name plate!

Work is full on at EDI producing the new 160 series IMU units for the Brisbane subruban system! IMU's 168 and 169 continue to be worked on as they sit out in front of the plant on a Saturday morning (14th April 2007). Of similar design to the Perth B units, also built by EDI, they sport external disc brakes, a feature unique to the Queensland rail enviroment.

A close up of this unit clearly shows the external disc brake system on the the new IMU 160 series.

A closer view of IMU 168 better shows off its neat, clean, rounded lines, as it sits out front of EDI at Maryborough on the same Saturday morning (14th April 2007). The new 160 units have become my favourite and in my opinion are the nicest of the Brisbane Suburban units.

Sunday 11th February, 2007, a brand new, as yet unumbered 160 series IMU sits at the otherwise deserted Maryborough Station. It appears the station's main use these days is for the temporary storage of new units out of EDI.

With its refurbishment work all but complete EL 3924 sits at Maryborough West on 14th April 2007 waiting to take take up its duties. These duties will most likely it will be assisting with coal haulage in the Central Queensland coal fields.

On Saturday 25th February 2006 again, a shot of the other end of 3922 (No. 1 end) showing the EDI plant shunting device. This device is like a "treadmill" that the works tractor drives up onto and with the rollers in the device turns the tractor into and instant shunt loco for the purposes of towing locos around the plant as required.

Sighted outside the EDI plant at Maryborough (Qld) on Saturday 25th February 2006 newly refurbished EL 3922 looks pristine in its new QR National livery. As QRN have decided not to convert the remaining 11 3900 classs locos to 3551 class as originally planned, the rest the class, (I believe 3922 is the second and 3925 was the first to be done), will emerge over time from EDI with only a partial 3551 class conversion ie minus new bogies and new gearing but with a fresh coat of paint, essentially remaining a 3900 class.

In very few places round the world will you see an electric hauled cattle train and only in Queensland will you see a cattle train at all in Australia! Here, just south of Maryborough West, EL 3908 with DEL 2494H as vehicle, hauls 28 KOJX cattle wagons northbound. 9th February 2002.
